What size do I need for kickboxing shin guards?

How do you determine the right size?

To find the right size shin guards for kickboxing, measure both your shin and instep separately. Then compare your measurements with the size chart below.

Measuring instructions:

  • For your shin: Measure from just above your ankle to just below your kneecap.

  • For your instep: Measure from the point where your shinbone ends to the tip of your big toe.

< 150 cm - shin length < 32 cm - instep length < 14 cm = XS

150 - 160 cm - shin length 32 tot 34 cm - instep length 14 tot 16 cm = S

160 - 170 cm - shin length 35 tot 37 cm - instep length 16 tot 17 cm = M

170 - 180 cm - shin length 37 tot 39 cm - instep length 17 tot 18 cm = L

> 180 cm - shin length > 39 cm - instep length > 18 = XL

What to consider when buying shin guards?

When purchasing shin guards for kickboxing, several factors should be taken into account, including the material. In our shop, we offer shin guards made from both genuine leather and synthetic leather:

  • Leather is more durable and lasts longer but comes at a higher price.

  • Synthetic leather is more affordable but less durable.

The origin of the shin guards is also important. Many professional fighters prefer handmade shin guards from Thailand. Thailand is known for producing the best gear, especially for Muay Thai and kickboxing, as the sport originated there. With decades of experience and access to top-quality materials, Thai brands dominate the market. Our top Thai shin guard brands are Fairtex, Yokkao, Twins Special, Primo, and Danger are all Thai-made shin guards.

Kids’ kickboxing shin guards – what’s the difference?

The biggest difference between kids’ and adult shin guards is the sizing. Kids’ shin guards are naturally smaller, ensuring optimal protection without feeling too big or uncomfortable.

Kickboxing gloves & shin guards

In the future, we will offer sets of shin guards and kickboxing gloves. For now, you can find matching kickboxing gloves in our current collection.

How to choose the best kickboxing shin guards?

Selecting the right shin guards depends on your skill level—are you a beginner or an advanced fighter? You can always contact our customer service for personalized advice.

Best kickboxing shin guards for beginners

For beginners, we recommend shin guards from Sanabul or Rinkage. These brands offer a great balance between price and quality. Despite their lower cost, they provide reliable protection and durability.

Shin Guards for Advanced Fighters & Professionals

For more experienced fighters, Classic shin guards from Primo are an excellent choice. They fit snugly around the calf, are lightweight, and stay securely in place—even during intense training like MMA sparring. In our opinion, these are the best option for professionals.

What’s the best material for kickboxing shin guards?

The material of your shin guards plays a crucial role in durability and comfort. Here’s a quick breakdown of the different materials:

Leather

  • Very durable

  • Classic look

  • High price range

Semi-Leather (Microfiber)

  • Medium durability

  • More affordable than genuine leather

  • Matte finish

Synthetic Leather (PU)

  • Budget-friendly

  • Less durable than leather

  • Suitable for beginners or occasional use

Cotton

Cotton shin guards resemble long socks with padding. We do not recommend these, as they offer little protection and are uncomfortable to train with. That’s why we’ve decided not to include them in our selection.

Leather kickboxing shin guards

Looking for genuine leather shin guards? Leather provides the best protection and durability, making it ideal for intensive use. Check out our leather kickboxing shin guards collection.

Why should you clean your shin guards?

Regular cleaning prevents bad odors and extends the lifespan of your shin guards.

To keep them fresh:

  • Remove them from your bag after each training session to air out.

  • Use a spray freshener to eliminate bacteria.

  • Occasionally scrub them with a soft brush and soapy water.

Not cleaning your shin guards can lead to bacterial growth, bad smells, and a shorter lifespan.

Use Sukkiri Spray to keep your shin guards fresh!
